2007 - 12 Caring Habits teaches students to lend a hand.
At a recent Caring Habit Luncheon hosted at Maplewood Junior Senior High School near Meadville, PA - it was announced that Caring Habits will begin with 7th graders in September 2006. Nancy Stover, a Maplewood reading specialist, hopes the program becomes contagious. “We hope students become a community of learners that exemplify these character traits (themes),” she said. “We hope to make it a community-wide program with everyone treating each other based on all 12 of the caring habits. It’s an absolutely wonderful program.”

2006 Lifting the Cloud of Genocide
At the invitation of the Republic of Rwanda and funded by USA and Rwandan Rotary Clubs and Districts, Elaine Parke spent two weeks in Rwanda teaching 70 educators about Caring habits in the USA. The rwandan eduators adopted the model to better suit Rwanda’s culture and climate and several schools began immediately to celebrate the Rwandan Caring Habits Themes.

Elaine Parke-Susco, founder of Caring Habits, believes that caring actions can be turned into life-changing habits and the Pittsburgh Rotary Club, District 7300, Rotary District 9160 in central Africa and the National Unity and Reconciliation Commission are sending Parke and her message to Africa.

2006 - Program Aimed at Improving Children’s Lives Underway
A new partnership aimed at strengthening the lives and self esteem of area children is underway in Oil City and Venango County. Funded by the Samuel Justice Charitable Trust and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, the coalition’s aims are to strengthen the future Venengo County by branding and inspiring a more unified and caring community.
